For more than a year, schools did not resume physical classes for the students in the state of Tamil Nadu due to the threat of Coronavirus infection pandemic. Students have been learning by online mode only. Various alignment works would have to be carried out in the schools soon.

Just recently, in the district of Tirunelveli, 3 students were killed when the perimeter wall of the school toilet collapsed suddenly. This has led to the intensification of demolition of old school buildings. The late reopening of the schools has led to reduction in the syllabus for the students are well known to us. This was done to lessen the burden on the students and teachers. Completion of syllabus within the stipulated time might not be possible. All these must be carried out and completed in a timely manner.

In this meeting there would be some discussions regarding the conduction of practical examinations in February for the students. It is important to mention that the meeting would also have discussions about whether it would be possible to hold the public examinations in the months of March and April or even postpone it as more time would be needed for preparing the buildings for conducting examinations. It must be taken into note that from September till now the district primary education officers review meeting has taken place two times. In Tamil Nadu, more than 2000 schools would have to undergo renovation works.

On the other hand, Omicron virus has been spreading lie fire now in TN and there is more necessity now to follow Covid-19 protocols like wearing facemasks, maintaining social distance etc. Night curfew might be enforced in Tamil Nadu. In this scenario, the school students are now in the half yearly vacations and there might be possibilities of schools not reopening in January month as scheduled due to an increase in the Omicron cases.

It is now revealed that the school education department has to consider all these things before taking any decision. In the review meeting, many important decisions are expected
