TN PDS shops to be open on Sundays

The State Government has announced an initiative to keep Public Distribution System (PDS) shops open on the first two Sundays of every month. The move has been welcomed by residents across Chennai, especially office goers.
‘The move would benefit the common man and there is a need for more announcements in this regard. Many of our neighbours are aware of the government`s decision’, said a resident of Chromepet. ‘In some shops, there are boards, but these are small in size, and not many people would notice them, and this initiative would certainly benefit office-goers like me’, said a Tambaram resident.
‘Several shops recorded good billing. Last Sunday, close to 30 bills were generated in our public distribution shop and this Sunday the number could easily cross 50… The news of ration shops kept open on Sundays was publicised and we expect crowds in the days to come. If required, we’ll display more informative boards’, said a cooperative society official.
