Many people use trains for travelling to reach their places of destination because they find the train travel very convenient!!

On Thursday, a test run was conducted on the newly built Tambaram- Guduvanchery railway track and it grabbed the attention. In 3 phases, work for a 30km long tract was conducted. Platforms and electrifications were done in the Chengalpet- Singaperumal Koil stations in the first phase laying of tracks. In the second phase, works including paths for connecting Singaperumal Koil, Maralaimalai Nagar, Kattankulathur, Potheri and Guduvancheri were carried out.

In the third phase, works for paths connecting Guduvancheri, Urapakkam, Vandalur, Perungalathur and Tambaram were carried out. It must be taken into note that the test run between Singaperumal Koil to Guduvanchery was carried out in the year 2020. Test run from Tambaram to Guduvancheri was conducted last month with a diesel engine train at different speeds like 60kmph, 80kmph and 100kmph. This test run was successful and due to this the railways wanted to conduct a test run with 8 bogies with a speed of 120kmph.

During the test run, important persons like Southern Railways Commissioner of Safety Mr. Abhay Kumar Rai and Mr. Ganesan, Chennai Divisional Manager etc were present.

It is worthy to mention that out of 220 trains that are operated between Chennai Beach-Tambaram-Chennai Beach just 56 trains get operated till Chengalpet, Kanchipuram, Thirumalpur and Arakkonam. Point is that if this new Tambaram- Guduvanchery railway tract starts functioning soon then the number of trains to the above said places would be increased to 100.
