Money sanctioned to upgrade medical facilities

A sum of Rs. 43.39 crores was sanctioned by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Wednesday to purchase ambulances and state of the art technology for hospitals in the State.

Of this, Rs. 18.20 crores has been set aside to special cots for pregnant women, surgical equipment and to set up modern operation theatres in maternity and child care hospitals. Rs. 10 crores is for the purchase of modern medical instruments for government medical college hospitals and government hospitals.

X ray equipment will be purchased for Rs. 1.58 crores and will be given to Chennai Government Hospital, Stanley Medical College and Hospital, Chengalpet and Tirunelveli Government Hospitals. The rest will be used to purchase laproscopic machines, MRI scans and ambulances.
