Various initiatives have been taken and the process of implementing them is underway by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) with the main objectives of making Chennai Metro City ‘litterless’ and thus maintain cleanliness throughout the city!

In this situation, GCC has received a large number of complaints that garbage/litter packs are being dumped in certain public locations!

Further, due to the prevailing lockdown imposition, many institutions/offices/organisations which remained closed for a long time of more than 20 months are being now reopened following the recent relaxations announced by the State Government of Tamil Nadu!

Complaints have been received by GCC that these institutions /organisations /offices while cleaning their complexes, are dumping the garbage/solid waste in public places nearby!

As such, with the view to maintain cleanliness throughout the Chennai Metro City, as per the Solid Waste Management Sub-rules 2019,  a fine of Rs. 500/- will be imposed on those who throw litter while walking or from vehicles! A fine of Rs. 100/- will be imposed on those who dump liquid garbage in the sewers or water reservoirs!

AS SUCH, THE PUBLIC IS HEREBY REQUESTED TO TO REFRAIN FROM DUMPING SOLID OR LIQUID GARBAGE IN PUBLIC PLACES OR WATERBODIES!
