TANGEDCO to implement action plan to address faulty power supply

The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) has prepared a plan to address complaints from residents about frequent power failures and low voltage.
‘The action plan envisages to reduce consumer complaints due to power failure and to strengthen the distribution network by installing new transformers, replacing worn out cables and damaged pillar boxes. The works are taken up in localities from where more complaints of power failure are received registered in the call centre No. 155333… Power failure in Mandaveli and Santhome which come under the Mylapore circle is due to phenomenal increase in air conditioner load. Due to overloading, transformers trip and power cables burst often. (We have) installed at least a dozen additional transformers besides replacing old cables… All works have been undertaken with the material available in the North and South Chennai regions. The CMD of the Tangedco is holding a review meeting twice a month on progress made in the distribution improvement works. Overall distribution network in the city will be strengthened and improved once the Rs 650 crore Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (RAPDRP) scheme is implemented. Tenders have already been floated for the scheme which will be completed by next year’, say sources.
