From the next academic year, diploma courses to be available in Tamil medium

The principals belonging to all polytechnic colleges in Tamil Nadu have been asked to give their suggestions by the higher education department regarding offering Diploma courses in Tamil language for the students from the next academic year. It is known that Mr K. Ponmudi, minister for higher education, has already announced that the diploma courses would be available in Tamil.
It is learnt that initially the diploma courses in Tamil would be offered in civil and mechanical engineering and later in all other streams. To amend the criteria for 20% reservation of candidates who studied in Tamil medium in direct recruitment to the government departments, the TN government has already introduced a bill.
It must be noted that in the first phase, DOTE has asked suggestions on the process of converting 2 diploma courses namely Civil and Mechanical from English to Tamil medium and submit a report to the TN government.
