Auto fares may be fixed on Today

With the deadline set by the Supreme Court for the fixing of tariffs for auto rickshaws having ended, the State Government is set to announce the new fares on Monday. The deadline came to an end on July 6th. However, uncertainty prevails among officials, auto drivers and consumers alike.
‘They (officials) might publicise the revised fares for auto rickshaws soon. The government is in the brink of announcing the new fares for Autos as it has settled down for a tariff which will be out soon, which could even be Monday (July 8). The delay in finalising the fares was due to two reasons. The officials were uncertain whether the tariff that is being fixed for Chennai would also be apt for other parts of the state as there is a huge difference in the volume of traffic and the time taken to reach a particular distance in both the areas’, said a source.
