Trees everywhere in Chennai!! Sounds sensational right!!
Residents would be coming across amazing greenery in the future in Chennai and for that Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC would be playing its role. A mass movement for tree plantation would be launched by GCC. In the Chennai city, one crore saplings would be planted under this mass movement for tree plantation. In the first year, 10lakh saplings would be planted at various places in Chennai. In this drive, the resident associations would also be contributing a lot.
It is now said that the GCC would be entrusting the resident associations the task of maintaining the trees in their neighbourhood. Those resident associations that take care of the trees over a certain period of time would be awarded by the GCC. On Tuesday, a meeting took place at the Ripon Buildings and senior officials belonging to the Forest Department and Chennai River Restoration Trust participated. There were discussions regarding planting saplings on the vacant land along the Adyar River, Cooum River, Kosasthalaiyar and Buckingham Canal etc
It must be noted that the saplings would be brought from Rajamahendaravaram in Andhra Pradesh. In this place, a large number of nurseries are located on the banks of River Godavari. Point is that saplings of native species would also be planted.
