Corporation schools with low strength to be merged with others

The Chennai Corporation is set to merge schools that have a strength of less than 25 students. The schools will be merged with the closest corporation school.
‘A school with less than 25 students will be merged with the closest corporation school, so technically the school will be closed. The move (is) not new as 54 have been merged so far. Around five or six schools in Adyar, Perambur and Pulianthope may be merged. Most are new primary schools which have not yet become popular or there are better private schools in the area who charge nominally… Councillors or politicians want the building to be converted into a community hall, which will provide them a source of income’, said sources at the Corporation.
