New train ticket cancellation charges

The Indian Railways will introduce new cancellation charges for tickets with effective from July 1st. According to the present rule, the cancellation charge is 25 per cent of the fare (subject to minimum cancellation charge) between 24 hours and 4 hours till time of departure. In the new rule, the 25 per cent charge will be applicable for between 48 hours and 6 hours till time of departure. The charge will be 50 per cent if cancelled within 6 hours of departure time.
Also, there will be a flat rate for minimum cancellation charge for all trains, differing class wise. The charges are: AC-I — Rs 120, AC-II & Class-I — Rs 100, AC-III & AC chair car — Rs 90, SL — Rs 60, Second class — Rs 30. These charges are applicable if the ticket is cancelled within 48 hours of time of departure.
