Home based clusters causing the second COVID wave in Chennai now

Posted on: 26/Mar/2021 9:18:48 AM
The state health departments have pointed out that the idea of home quarantine needs to be revisited for many patients. The shocking truth is that home based clusters are now turning out to be the biggest reason behind the second wave.

During the lockdown, the household clusters did not surface as the cases were managed with restricted movement of patients or their kin. Dr. TS. Selvavinagayam, DPHPM expressed his thoughts. He spoke about how with increase in the cases close to 500 Covid-19 patients wanted to have home based quarantine.

Earlier, the movement of the people was restricted and now they have been travelling to other districts and states freely thereby increasing the risk of infection transmission. The practise of monitoring household clusters by the GCC officials took a back seat as the number of cases decreased. This monitoring has prevented the spread of cases is well known to us.

It must be noted that in May-June 2020, when there was a spike in the cases just 30% were allowed to quarantine at their homes. There was institutional quarantine to monitor mild cases.

The city health officer Mr Jagadeesan was of the view that currently 505 of people choose home based quarantine now but they are not being monitored.
