The summer demand of the Chennai residents for the drinking water would be met easily now!! Superb isn’t it!!

To help Chennai meet the demand for drinking water in the summer season, Andhra Pradesh would begin supplying Krishna water to Chennai in April month. It must be taken into account that the floods in the Krishna water has made the irrigation authorities to release 8.05tmft of water to Chennai.

The irrigation officers were of the view that this has been a record in the supply of drinking water to Chennai city in a single year span.

Information collected is that Kandaleru reservoir that augments drinking water supply to, among other cities like Chennai and Tirupati, had received 65144 tmcft from Somasila reservoir across the Penna for the first time after it was constructed.

In view of adequate storage to meet the residents needs and to carry out repair work to the canal carrying water from Kandeleru to Poondi.

Telugu Ganga Project Chief engineer, H. Harinarayan Reddy, spoke about how water release to Chennai would start from April.  In the water year, twin major reservoirs of Nellore district had received record inflows. Truth is that Chennai city though is entitled to 12 tmcft of water with the 3 riparian states of undivided AP, Maharashtra and Karnataka contributing equally, its quota remained elusive during most of the years. This was due to dwindling inflows into the reservoirs in the lower riparian state of AP after the construction of reservoirs in the upper riparian states.
