Whats happening now in the northern suburbs of Chennai regarding COVID cases?

The Coronavirus infection has been spreading like a fire now and this has made many to worry.

In Chennai, the fresh or new cases have exceeded 600 a day yesterday and for the last 2 days the northern suburbs of Chennai has been recording around 100 cases a day.

It is now brought to light by some officials belonging to GCC that a number of areas in northern suburbs of Chennai that had more cases in the past have fewer cases now than other parts of Chennai. There were some cases reported from the apartments in some pockets.

Truth is that fresh cases in the northern regions with zones like Tiruvottriyur, Manali, Madhavaram, Tondiarpet and Royapuram etc have cases between 60 and110 per day now.

As per an officer belonging to GCC, overall the Covid-19 cases have been increasing in the Chennai city. He added that the daily count has dipped to less than 200 and there is a slight uptake now.

It is important to note that there is no need to worry as Chennai has been registering just one sixth of cases when compared to the peak when it registered around 3000 cases. The daily count has gone above 5000 now and the northern parts reported over 100 cases in the last 2days of time. There is now a fluctuation in the daily figures.

There was a widespread transmission of the infection last year in Royapuram and Tondiarpet when Covid-19 infection was at its peak. Information is that at present Tondiarpet zone recorded 30 to 40 cases per day whereas Royapuram zone recorded around 50 cases per day.

It is superb to note that the fresh cases are nowhere near the number that was recorded when Covid-19 infection was at its peak. There were around 300 cases in Royapuram and Tondiarpet during the peak. These 2 zones in north Chennai are densely populated are well known to us.

In the past, there were many cases in the slums but now there is no case and focused community intervention has been taken up now. The Coronavirus cases reduced substantially after the initial wave and now there are no cases seen in the slums.

It is clear that the number of tests done per day by the civic body in the northern parts of Chennai stood at 2000.People must be careful and there must be any complacency. Point is that a penalty amount is being collected from those who do not wear facemasks now.
