A project which has been kept long-pending – The Bengaluru-Chennai Metro City Expressway Project – is finally on track!

Bhopal-based Dilip Buildcon Limited has emerged as the lowest bidder in the 2 packages for constructing a section of the Highway (278 km).

On 24th February, the National Highway Authority of India opened the finalised bids for 2 packages (27 km each) of Phase-1 – Bengaluru-Malurand Malur-Banmgarpet.

Dilip Buildcon Limited had quoted Rs. 1079.20 Crores & Rs. 1186.9 Crores for the Packages 1 & 2 respectively. However, NHIA’s estimated cost was Rs. 938.3 Crores and Rs. 1031.40 Crors – As such, it is still not claear whether the Work Order will be issued after conducting negotiations or whether another new tender will be floated.

On Thursday (25th February), Dilip Buildcon, Monte Carlo And DP Jain & Company Infrastructure emerged as the lowest-bidders for the 3 packages located in Andhra Pradesh & Tamil Nadu.

All the above 3 firms had quoted an amount higher than NHIA’s estimated cost.

The 4-lane expressway, expected to be completed in 2 years, is likely to reduce the travel-time between Chennai Metro City and Bengaluru.

The expressway from Hoskote in Karnataka and Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu will pass through Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. This project has been delayed due to various reasons.

NHAI Officials said that the planned stretch would serve as a key logistics corridor, speeding up movement of goods and improving connectivity to the Chennai Port.

The Central Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkary, recently said the foundation stone for the expressway will be laid within a month and construction will begin within the next 3 months.
