Former CM Jayalalithaas Veda Nilayam likely to open to the public on 28th January!

Following the inauguration of late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaas memorial on the Marina beach on January 27, the State Government of Tamil Nadu might plan on inaugurating Veda Nilayam, which has also been converted into a memorial, on 29th January.

Highly placed sources in the Tami Nadu State Government shared, The ongoing work in Veda Nilayam has been completed. It is now ready to be inaugurated. Once Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy confirms the date, the official announcement will be made.

Timeline
  • Following the death of Jayalalithaa in 2016, the government in 2017 announced conversion of Veda Nilayam in the Poes Garden into a memorial.
  • However, J Deepa and her brother Deepak, niece and nephew of Jayalalithaa respectively claimed ownership of the property and filed a petition in Madras High Court. Even as the case is pending, the state government took temporary possession of Jayalalithaas properties and began converting the house into a memorial.
  • In September last year, the government announced the formation of Puratchi Thalaivi Dr J Jayalalithaa Memorial Foundation and appointed Palaniswamy as its chairman. The foundation will maintain both the memorial and possessions of Jayalalithaa. The State had allotted Rs 67 Crores towards the conversion of Veda Nilayam into a memorial.
