Suo Moto proceeding against TANGEDCO

The Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulation Commission (TNERC) has initiated a suo moto proceeding against TANGEDCO (Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation) due to the non compliance to the rules in declaring a loss that was not well supported by any data.
The order said, �Till 2010, the TANGEDCO was reporting only 18 per cent as T and D (Transmission and Distribution) losses. However, in the tariff petition filed in November 2011, the TANGEDCO claimed a T and D loss of 17.60 per cent, 19.14 per cent and 18.74 per cent for the FY 2011, FY 2012, and FY 2013 respectively� By the same analogy, T and D losses of 16.40 per cent are approved for 2013-14. As and then the TANGEDCO comes out with the scientific study on T and D losses, the commission may review and re fix the losses� The online measurement taken for a period of one year should be used to arrive at the voltage- wise T and D losses for the respective FY. Such data should be submitted once in every two months to the commission , starting from October 2013.�
