Posted on: 24/Dec/2020 9:20:13 AM
For the next few days in most parts of TN, cool and dry weather would be prevailing. On Thursday, there might be some rains in one or two places in south TN. This was mentioned by the Indian Meteorological Department or IMD. The officials have stated that with no significant weather system over the Bay of Bengal, most parts of TN would experience dry weather till 27th December. Districts like Madurai, Ramanathapuram and Thoothukudi got light rains on Wednesday.

Dip in the temperatures:
In many regions, the minimum temperature has dipped below the normal. Minimum temperature of 18 degrees Celsius was experienced by places like Vellore, Tiruttani etc yesterday.

In Chennai, Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded a minimum of 20.5 degrees Celsius yesterday.

Till the end of this year, dry weather conditions might prevail in the state of TN and this was according to Mr. S. Balachandran, DDG-Meteorology in Chennai. The rains would come again in the first week of January. He hinted that the information about the rains is not clear as of now.

There would be chilly weather in the night times and this would be due to the cloudless skies and also due to the dry land winds from central parts of India. Fact is that the NE monsoon has not withdrawn from TN till now. The season is considered to end on 31st December officially.

Normal rainfall in TN:
Mr Balachandran then spoke about how TN received normal rainfall in this season. The state has recorded an average rainfall of 47cm from the 1st of October.
