Chennai Corporation going solar

The Chennai Corporation has set a deadline of two years to complete the installation of solar panels in all government buildings. Around 3500 buildings that come under the Corporation will soon be able to generate their own power.
Plans are on the use the 25000 sq. ft. on top of Ripon Buildings Annexe to generate solar energy. However, the use of solar panels is not possible at the Ripon Buildings as the weight may affect the heritage building. Similar to the annexe, the terrace of the Communicable Diseases Hospitals in Tondiarpet that spans over 60000 sq. ft. will help in generating power for the entire Hospital.
Schools, hospitals, emergency obstetric care centres, community centres and office buildings will come under this scheme.
