Prospects for a new cyclone to be formed over the Bay of Bengal on 2nd December

There are strong prospects for a new cyclone to be formed over the Bay of Bengal.

The Director of the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre, Balachandran, shred in this regard on Friday (27th November):

A low-pressure is to be formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal on Sunday (29th November). This would intensify and transform into a depression zone on Monday (30th November) and drift towards coastal Tamil Nadu. Due to this, there are prospects for widespread rains in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from 1st December to 3rd December. This depression zone may transform into a cyclone.

This new low-pressure zone is likely to intensify and the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that while drifting towards the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, there are prospects for heavy rain in 1 or 2 places on 2nd & 3rd December.

As at 8.30 AM on Friday (27th November) over the last 24 hours, the following rainfalls in mm were recorded: Sholingur, Ranippettai District 230, Vadappudhuppattu, Thirupathur 160, Ponnai Dam, Vellore District, and Amundi 140.
