For another 4 days, Chennai to get thunderstorms with light rains and dry spells

Posted on: 07/Nov/2020 9:15:14 AM
Many localities in Chennai had received early morning rains due to the cyclonic circulation. There would be light to moderate rains in Chennai for the next 2 days. This was according to some weathermen. The rains would be followed by a dry spell for atleast 4 days and then monsoon would come back for the next round of spells. This was according to some weather enthusiasts.

Indian Meteorological Department or IMD has predicted thunderstorms with light to moderate rains in the next 48 hours in some areas in Chennai. The condition of the sky is likely to be cloudy and maximum temperature would be around 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature would be around 25 degree Celsius.

On Saturday, there would be heavy rain forecasted in isolated places over Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Cuddalore, hill ranges of Theni, The Nilgiris etc. On Sunday, heavy to very heavy rains have been predicted at isolated places over south coastal TN.

It was later explained by Mr. N. Puviarasan, director of Area Cyclone Warning Centre IMD that the rainfall activity over TN was due to the cyclonic circulation that was over the Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Sri Lanka and is now over Comorin area and neighbourhood extending up to 0.9km above mean sea level. In Chennai, Nungambakkam received 7.1mm rains and Meenambakkam received 11mmm rains in the early morning.

The Chennai city would continue to get rainfall at late nights or in the early mornings due to wind converging closer to the coast resulting in the convention. This would be due to the absence of a strong weather system closer to the coast. This was according to weather blogger Mr. Pradeep John. He added that the people expect 100mm rains always and that would not happen always.

Point is that Chennai got a decent amount of rains in the last 2 days and it would get early morning rains for one more day. As usual, sunny days are expected. Important information is that it would not rain during the day in Chennai unless there is a low pressure or a cyclone nearby.

Most of TN would be dry with light rains over some places in the next 2 days and this was brought out by some officials of IMD.  It is now said that the next round of rains might be before deepavali and that might be due to the cyclonic circulation.
