The cyclonic circulation in the south west Bay of Bengal off north TN coast would be triggering moderate to heavy rains in Chennai city plus in the northern parts of TN in the next 72 hours. This was according to some officials belonging to the RMC Chennai.

As per Mr. N. Puviarasan, director RMC Chennai, in a few more hours, the depression which prevailed in the central Bay of Bengal and adjoining NW Bay of Bengal on Friday would cross the border between Sagar islands and Sundarban.

He threw light on the presence of cyclonic air circulation in the south west bay of Bengal off north TN coast. Information gathered is the sky would be overcast in Chennai city and its suburbs for the next 2 days and some places in Chennai would receive light rains.

Districts like Villupuram, Cuddalore and Kallakurichi would receive heavy rainfall. There would be moderate rains in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpet, Kancheepuram plus in others like Dharmapuri, Erode, Krishnangiri, Salem, Tirupattur, Thiruvannamalai, Vellore, Ranipet etc. Across the areas in TN, a thunderstorm warning has been issued too.

It was mentioned by Chennai weather blogger Mr. Pradeep John that the depression in the bay would move towards north and be caught by westerly trough and would proceed towards west Bengal or Bangladesh coast. .The depression has been dragged away from the AP coast due to West Bengal/ Bangladesh due to the westerly trough dipping from the north. Intense thunderstorms plus rains would be there due to dry northerlies that would meet with westerlies.
