The temperature in Chennai came down slightly as a breeze set in on Friday. Residents were grateful for the respite from the scorching heat.
Nungambakkam recorded 36.6 degrees celsius and Meenambakkam recorded 36.8 degrees celsius on Friday. These are a degree lower than the normal temperature during May. There was also rain in Vellore and Tiruvarur districts. Alangayam in Vellore recorded a maximum of 8 cms of rainfall and Muthupet in Tiruvarur received 7 cms.
Deputy Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre at Chennai Dr. Y.E.A. Raj said, �As the southwest monsoon advances, we could get some rain here and there in Tamil Nadu. Kanyakumari, parts of Tirunelveli, Coimbatore and Ooty would get some rainfall� In all, the state has received a pre-monsoon seasonal total of 9 cm rains, compared to the normal 12 cm. The state would now have to wait for the southwest monsoon to get some good rainfall.�
