Interior roads belonging to the added areas to be re-laid by GCC

Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC would be relaying the interior roads present in the places like Ambattur, Sholinganallur, Perungudi, Thiruvottiyur, Valasaravakkam, Manali and Madhavaram. Surprised!!
As many as 2601 roads belonging to these places in Chennai would be re-laid at a cost of Rs 191 crores. The tenders have been floated for this purpose. This was mentioned by the senior officials.
It is now said that the majority of roads totalling length of 350km would be topped with bitumen and the rest would be concrete roads. The relaying of the roads is important due to the constant wear and tear and they need to be re-laid once in 3 years. By the month of January 2021, the relaying work would be started. This was according to an official belonging to the GCC.
Information is funds for relaying roads were obtained from Chennai Mega City Development Fund and from TN Urban Road Infrastructure. List on those roads that needed overhaul would be prepared by the zonal officials and detailed consultations were held with them.
The official added that the roads were damaged due to CMWD pipeline laying works plus due to optical fibre cables laying works. Road design consultant played his part in preparing a DPR or detailed project report. Relaying of the interior roads in the core places in Chennai was also finalised by GCC. An amount of Rs 100 crores would be spent in relaying nearly 1100 roads covering 183kms.
Many residents were surprised to know that GCC would be relaying the roads. It was pointed out by a resident belonging to Ambattur that the development was a welcome surprise because many interior roads required immediate attention.
He wanted the GCC to make sure that the contractors maintain total transparency about the project by putting details like milling works done etc on the notice boards.
