Posted on: 08/Aug/2020 11:03:19 AM
For the last few days, the Chennai city had cloudy skies and the temperature was little down.

This weekend, Chennai could get light rains and this was according to the weathermen. There could be rains for at least 3 days and in the western parts of TN, there could be heavy rains. The condition of the sky is likely to be generally cloudy and there could be light rains in some areas.

Chennai city in the next 48 hours would have a maximum temperature of around 36 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature around 28 degrees Celsius. This has been predicted by the RMC Chennai.

For the next 24 hours, there could be scattered very heavy to heavy rains and isolated extremely heavy rain is likely to take place over Nilgiris, Coimbatore, and Theni districts.

At some isolated places over Salem, Erode, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Dindigul, and Erode districts, etc, there could be heavy rains. This was mentioned by Mr. N. Puviarasan, director of Area Cyclone Warning Centre. Later, Mr. Puviarasan spoke about how on Saturday Chennai and its suburban places would have mostly cloudy skies and light rains in some areas of Chennai.

Important information is on Thursday Nilgiris district-based Devala and Avalanche recorded 36 cm and 35 cm rainfall. Coimbatore district-based Chinnakalar and Cinchona recorded 31 cm and 29 cm spots of rain respectively. There could be strong wind convergence near the east coast this weekend and this could trigger rains in Chennai city.

It is now said that this wind convergence could be prior to the formation of low pressure that has been forecast over the Bay of Bengal. Point is this low-pressure system is expected to lessen the strength of the westerlies in this part of the region. Around 9th August, a low-pressure area is likely to develop over the north and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal.
