TN Medical Students face issues in their academics due to their Corona duties

Life of a medical student is really tough now!! Apart from studying their long course, they would have to do various other works too.

It is now brought out that the last semester course structure of the final year UG, as well as PG medicos in TN and in Chennai, has been disrupted as they have to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak. The absence of classes currently for these final year medical students has created problems for them and the students have been affected in more ways than one way.

It was later mentioned by a final year government college medical student from Chennai that the students from the specialty courses have been working in the emergency units and taking care of medicine wards due to Coronavirus infection.

He expressed his disappointment regarding how instead of practicing the specialty the students have been doing one week of COVID-19 duty followed by a week of quarantine. This has affected the course structure and syllabus has been lagging. He concluded that the medicos were willing to serve the public.

It must be taken into account that the government medical colleges and hospitals have been conducting online classes for UG students and for some of the PG courses also. The practical sessions needed for the course structure have been disrupted and the online classes would not provide as a solution.

According to Dr. Perumal Pillai, state office bearer of service doctors and PG Association, the service doctors and PG students were at a loss academically due to the Corona works and quarantine.
