Andrea Colaco has won the MIT entrepreneurship competition for her touch free technology. The prize is $100 K cash. Ms. Colaco, a Ph. D. from MIT, has developed a real time, millimeter precise 3 D innovation that should make phone companies running after her. Her innovation was chosen based on its precision and value for money.
�What is the next interface for cellphone devices? It is gesture recognition. Every cellphone-device manufacturer is scrambling to bring gesture-recognition into their devices. This is an immediate and unaddressed market� Now with the prize money, 3dim will go full steam. We will develop the technology for customers-smart-device manufacturers-who have already expressed interest in the product� The need for power-hungry, specialized hardware has kept such technology from mobile devices-problem that has now been rectified� (My) prototype only demands a few milliwatts of additional power from the phone-about one-seventh of the amount used by a standard smartphone camera�, said Ms. Colaco.
