Commercial establishments would be sealed for 14 days if they dont follow rules

Physical distancing and wearing facemasks must be followed compulsorily by all commercial establishments in Chennai. If not, then these commercial establishments would be sealed by the GCC. Point is for a period of 14 days these would be sealed.

For the sake of controlling the spread of Coronavirus infection in Chennai, the Chennai Corporation commissioner Mr. G. Prakash took part in a meeting with some representatives belonging to the eateries and online agencies yesterday. The need to adhere to the safety norms was stressed by the officials.

Mr. Prakash later explained about how atleast one lakh commercial establishments in Chennai city attracts huge crowds and how this could increase the risk of COVID spreading. 

He hinted that any violations pertaining to physical distancing could result in the sealing of commercial buildings like banks, PDS outlets etc in Chennai for a time of 14 days. If any customer was found not wearing facemasks in the premises then the establishments would be locked and sealed.

Truth is each of the commercial establishments in Chennai has been ordered to ensure social distancing of their staff members plus place hand sanitizers at the entrance. 

There are atleast 6000 staff members of online agencies that deliver commodities at the doorsteps of the residents and they have been asked to follow the norms pertaining to social distancing and wearing facemasks, sanitation etc. 

Mr. Meghanatha Reddy, Chennai Corporation deputy commissioner (Revenue and Finance) later hinted about rationalising the fine amount after the representatives of the online agencies and hotels requested the civic body to reduce the fine amount.
