Fall in Coronavirus growth rate in the last week in Chennai

For the first time ever since the complete lockdown was enforced, the growth rate of new Coronavirus has become negative in the Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC.

It has been pointed out by the Chennai Corporation that the average 7 days compounded average growth rate for the last 7 days in Chennai was -0.2% on 6th July 2020. Point is on 5th July it was 1.6%.

There has been negative growth of fresh Coronavirus positive cases in as many as 8 zones belonging to GCC. Negative trends were observed in 4 out of 5 zones of northern region of the Corporation.

Earlier zones like Royapuram, Tondiarpet and Thiru- Vi -Ka Nagar were recording high numbers of positive cases and these now have recorded negative growth. Highest growth rate of new Coronavirus cases was recorded in the Perungudi zone and it was 10.9% and Kodambakkam zone recorded a growth rate of 5.7% growth.

Many efforts have been taken to reduce the case burden in the thickly populated localities is known. This has been the reason why negative growth was recorded in all the 5 zones in the north region.  This was brought out by the latest data from the corporation. In the last 7 days, Chennai city has seen -1.7 % in the new cases. This was according to an official belonging to GCC.

On Monday, 6th July, Chennai Corporation recorded as many as 1747 cases whereas n 7th July the corporation had recorded 1203 new Coronavirus cases.

It is important to note that the total number of Coronavirus cases touched 70,071 on 7th July and as many as24052 persons are undergoing treatment. After remaining as a hotspot for Coronavirus outbreak, the number of active cases has come down in the zones like Tondiarpet and Royapuram. As a result, there is a dip in the overall numbers. In the coming days, there would be more improvement.
