Ever since Coronavirus infection began in Chennai, social distancing and sanitisation have become key factors for controlling the spread of infection. It is known that social distancing was not followed at the Koyambedu wholesale market and this resulted in many Coronavirus cases in Chennai. This Koyambedu market was shut down and a temporary wholesale market was opened at Thirumazhisai for the people. The Tiruvallur district police do not want this issue of lack of social distancing once again happening at Thirumazhisai market.

To avoid this, the Tiruvallur district police have installed devices for the sake of social distancing at the temporary wholesale market at Thirumazhisai. Global Thermal Control Systems Private Ltd has developed this device termed IRIS and the device has been installed in 3 shops on trial basis.

Working principle of the device
It was revealed by Mr. Rajesh one of the founders of this company that when 2 persons attend within 2.5m then the device would sound an alarm. Motion capture technology principle has been used and each device would cover an area of 400sqft and would be ideal for the shops. Video would be stored by this new device and later the police personnel could access live footage on their mobile phones.
