On Friday, 3rd July 2020, Chennai Corporation commissioner, Mr. G. Prakash attracted the attention of many when he launched HQIMS or home quarantine and isolation monitoring system. This smartphone application has been developed by Cooper Inc Company.

For the sake of monitoring the persons under home quarantine and isolation, Friend of COVID citizen Under Surveillance or FOCUS volunteers would use the apps.  Currently, the manual list is being used to track such persons. The volunteers would be able to easily track and help the residents as the app would have details about the quarantined persons and their quarantine period.

It must be taken into account that earlier the volunteers had to collect the list of quarantined persons from the ward offices every day but now the app could be used. Tax collectors and assessors and license surveyors could monitor important information uploaded by the volunteers and for this, another version of the application would be available.

To make sure that the quarantined persons remain in their houses and follow norms, GCC has appointed as many as 3300 FOCUS volunteers. These volunteers would help the home quarantined persons in buying essentials items.

To cover all the streets of Chennai, GCC has appointed the volunteers. It is important to note that at present Chennai city has got around 22,000 active Coronavirus positive cases and 50% of the patients are under home quarantine. There are many who have been quarantined by GCC also. These persons get discharged from the hospitals and COVID care centers after a time of 14 days.
