River promenade to be beautified

Following the taking over of land along the Cooum River, the Chennai Corporation has decided to make use of these strips to build parking areas, playgrounds and parks. The decision was taken during a meeting on Thursday. The meeting’s agenda was to prepare a master plan for restoration of Chennai’s waterways.
The Government will also spend a substantial amount of money to clean up waterways in the city. It expects to complete the task in 10 years’ time. The Corporation will also look into the illegal spillage of sewage into the waterways, while redoing the existing sewage system to benefit the marine ecosystem in the city.
