The city of Chennai has been under complete lock down for 8 weeks for containing the spread of Covid-19 is well known. The lock down has resulted in crippling the economy of TN. Point to be noted is the number of Corona virus positive cases has gone above 20,000 in TN now.

This has now shown that the complete lock down in Chennai and TN has been a failure in terms of Corona virus containment.

There were just 8 Corona virus positive cases in Chennai on 24th March 2020 when complete lock down was enforced in TN and in India. In TN, the number of cases was just 15 at that time. The containment measures taken by GCC to prevent the spread of this infection did not bear fruit with more than 65 percent of Corona virus positive cases reported in Chennai.

The spread Of Corona virus has been due to factors like crowds thronging Koyambedu market, Kasimedu fish market and other markets without wearing face masks and without maintaining social distancing. This was in the lock down period. The officials have pointed out that the time restrictions of the markets have led to more crowds thereby making it easy for the infection to spread from one to another.
