Fresh and comprehensive guidelines to the hospitals on Corona virus testing, testing strategies, home isolation, categorization of patients and discharge policy have been issued by the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine. For the lack of tests, no emergency procedure should be delayed. This was stated by the TN health department.

The guidelines issued by the health department of TN stated that all the inter-state and international passengers entering TN must be tested. It added that the direct asymptomatic contacts and high risk contacts of a confirmed case need to be tested between day 5 and day 10 of coming in contact with person.

Patients who were hospitalized and who had developed influenza like illnesses also need to be tested. Remaining in the home isolation for those infected with Corona virus and are asymptomatic ensuring all safety precautions was also stressed by the guidelines.

The home quarantine could be terminated and patient would be discharged only after 14 days if the patient did not have fever for 10 consecutive days. For the termination of home isolation, no RT-PCR tests would be needed.

In Covid-19 care centres, mild cases would be taken care of and the patients need to be under home quarantine for 7 days after discharge. It must be noted that the moderate cases treated in the Covid-19 health care centres could be discharged if they were asymptomatic for 3 consecutive days after 10 days of testing positive. Point is mild and moderate cases need not be tested with RT-PCR kits before discharge whereas in severe cases testing must be conducted before discharging.
