Ginger and garlic costliest

The prices of ginger and garlic have risen so steeply, that they are now costlier than other vegetables. These two condiments are an essential part of Indian cooking and people are unable to afford them. A kilo of ginger was Rs. 60 last month, this month it has risen up to Rs. 220! Garlic is comparatively cheaper at Rs. 90 at the most. Earlier it was sold for Rs. 40 at the most.

Comparatively, the prices of regular vegetables are much lower. A kilogram of carrots costs Rs. 50, broad beans Rs. 55, beans Rs. 55, green chillies Rs. 54, small onions Rs. 55, tomato Rs. 35, onions Rs. 20, beetroot Rs. 35, potato Rs. 28, ladies finger Rs. 23 and eggplant Rs. 25.
