Help your pets beat the heat

The hot sun is bad enough for humans who are able to take the necessary nutrition to fight the bad effects, but what about our four legged friends? According to experts, proper food and medication can help your pet beat the heat this summer.

Says Dawn Williams, General Manager of Blue Cross, ‘This initiative (Water Bowl for animals) has evoked good response from across the city. We are being helped by corporates like Infosys and HCL for the same. Our bowl is designed for community dogs and birds, which can easily consume water from these bowls.’

‘Proper ventilation and adequate amount of Vitamin C supplements are essential for pets during summer. Tick infestation (a parasite attack) is very common during hot days. If your pet is infected with it, immediate treatment must be ensured… Feeding birds with little grains is good, but offering them spoilt food might lead to sour tongue problem. The general appetite of all animals is very low during this season and hence one must not try to over feed them in the name of care.

‘Animals should not be caged or confined indoors as their own respired air makes the room hotter. Brachycephalic breed of dogs like pugs are prone to sun stroke compared to other breeds as their respiratory tract is small’, says a city vet.
