Biogas power project in Adyar zone

In a project that will not only solve the power crisis to a large extent, but also reduce the waste disposal problems in the city, the Chennai Corporation will produce biogas using segregated waste. A test project will be held at Ward 173 in the Adyar zone.
The Corporation has tied up with Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives for the purpose. At the moment, an NGO called Transparent Chennai is mapping the waste generated in the selected area that comprises of MRC Nagar, Greenways Road, Bishop Garden, Srinivasapuram and Kesava Perumal Puram. An official from the Corporation said, ‘"We plan to use the electricity produced to power street lights in the area.’
