No successive holidays for banks as thought earlier!

Posted on: 04/Mar/2020 11:36:21 AM
As the strike proposed by the bank employees throughout India has been withdrawn and cancelled, the bank officials have announced that the banks would function normally next week!

Appealing with a 12-point demand including salary increase and 5-days-working week, the bank employees throughout the country went on strike on 31st January and 1st February At that time, they further announced that their next strike will be for 3 days from 11th to 13th March.

In this situation, the Bank Employees Association and the Bank Officers Association held continuous discussions with the central government. As there was some positive progress in these discussions, the proposed 3-day strike from 11th to 13th March has been withdrawn. So, there wont be any successive bank holidays as expected earlier.

The bank officials explained regarding this:

A strike was proposed to be conducted for 3 days from 11th to 13th March. As 10th March is a holiday for the occasion of Holi festival, a decision was taken to propose strike from 11th March. With 14th and 15th March also happening to be government holidays, there was a situation where there would be  6 successive holidays when banks would not function! However, as there was some positive progress in the discussions between the central government and the bank employees association and the bank officers association, the above-proposed strike has been withdrawn! So, the banks will function as usual on the above dates. Only, 10th March will be a holiday on the occasion of Holi in the states where this is celebrated!
