Banquet given to those behind Amma Unavagam

The Chennai Corporation will open a total of one thousand Amma Unavagams. The announcement was made after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa made her wish known.
Currently, there are 200 such no price food outlets, one for each of the two hundred wards in Chennai. These outlets serve a plate of idlis for Re. 1, sambar rice for Rs. 5 and curd rive for Rs.3. The outlets have been huge hits with the general public. According to reports, over a crore idlis have been sold in the last two months.
To show thanks to all the officials who worked night and day to make this project a success, Chennai’s Mayor Saidai Duraiswamy held a banquet in the city. City Commissioner Vikram Kapoor and Deputy Mayor Benjamin also took part in the banquet.
