All parts of Chennai to get metro water supply equally

There might not be any complaint from the Chennai residents for some time regarding the metro water supply.
The Metro water has planned to supply water to all parts of the city of Chennai equally because the inflow of Krishna water has been assured till February month-end.
As much as 650 million litres of water is being provided on alternate days or once in 3 days in some places at present is known. The officials belonging to the MWD were in no hurry to increase the water supply though there was sufficient storage in the reservoirs to last till the next SW monsoon.
It was brought out by an official of MWD that they want to optimize the use of available resources to supply equitable water supply to the tail end places in Chennai. He hinted that a study was launched to find out means to make water pressure more and to ensure water supply to all households in Chennai.
Sustaining drinking water supply to both core as well as added areas in Chennai is important and places like Avadi, Pammal and Anakaputhur would be brought into the ambit of metro water supply. For these, the metro water department is preparing a mix of different sources and distribution patterns. Distributing available resources for a longer period needs a rational plan.
One of the highest volumes of Krishna water has been received by Chennai city since the month of September in 2019. Previously, this happened in the year 2011. The storage point for the inflows, Poondi reservoir has received 4212 mcft of Krishna water till now and this is equivalent to 5 months water supply to the Chennai city.
The authorities belonging to Andhra Pradesh have assured water supply till February end but the supply might continue till the end of April month. The storage in the reservoirs would get boosted. This was according to a senior official of WRD. Point that should not be forgotten is in 2011-12 Chennai city got 8198 mcft of Krishna water in 2 spells. The truth is Krishna water has helped to increase the storage to about 50% of reservoirs capacity.
