Concrete roads for Perungudi and Kodungaiyur dumping yards

In the wake of a number of complaints by the residents of Kodungaiyur and Perungudi, the Chennai Corporation has announced that concrete roads will be laid inside the dump yards there at the cost of Rs. 10.59 crores. The roads are expected to facilitate dumping garbage away from the residential areas.
The Perungudi dump yard will have 2.5 kms of concrete road and the Kodungaiyur yard will have 2.3 kms. The roads would help in systematic dumping of waste.
An official said, ‘We have started source segregation and this new approach will solve existing problems to a certain extent.’
