Security beefed up in small stations, unreserved coaches

Posted on: 22/Apr/2013 1:00:18 PM
In the wake of the theft on the Alapuzha – Dhanbad Express, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has upped security on unreserved coaches. They will now also increase surveillance on smaller stations such as Basin Bridge and Perambur. They are currently in the process of setting up CCTV facilities in each of the stations.

Inspector General (IG) of Government Railway Police (GRP) R. Arumugam, ‘We have alerted all our personnel to keep a watch on unreserved coaches. Such coaches are crowded and the gang took advantage of poor labourers. Railway police personnel have been told to monitor people who board a train at night … We are also trying to get people to use the railway police helpline.’
