Posted on: 06/Dec/2019 9:41:51 AM
Weathermen have become very busy now and have predicted that Chennai would get another round of rain after a brief dry spell now. There are just 4 weeks left for the NE monsoon season to end and it is now said that the rains might further improve the Chennai city’s water situation and reduce the rain deficit.

In places such as Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Ramanathapuram and Tuticorin, there would be light to moderate rains on Friday. This was according to the forecast made by IMD. It is worthy to mention that by Saturday light rains would occur in few places over coastal TN.

Mr. Puviarasan, director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, revealed that one or two places over coastal districts of TN on Saturday might have isolated rains. The trough extending from Sri Lanka to TN would be responsible for the Friday rains in south TN

Easterly winds might bring rains back in Chennai city on Saturday and this was as per some private weathermen. Information got is rains have not been predicted by IMD on Saturday. Point to be noted is waves are disturbances that take place with the tropical easterlies and when these low level winds enter the trough of the waves they converge. This would result in convection.

It was later brought out by Mr. Mahesh Palawat of Skymet Weather that there might be isolated rains in Chennai due to subdued monsoon.

From Saturday, there might be late night or early morning rainfall in the Chennai city and it might last for next 3 days. This was according to popular weather blogger, Mr. Pradeep John. He explained about how easterly waves might bring rains and how it might begin with Cuddalore to delta region on Friday and next day for Chennai.

Mr. Pradeep John concluded that there might be light spells of rains like 20 mm or 30 mm and bands could end up giving more rains. Point that must not be forgotten is easterly waves predicted to provide light rains have ended up providing more rains.

Important piece of information is rain deficit has been increased from 8 % to 10% due to the dry spell in Chennai for the last few days and the surplus in TN is at 11 percent.

High atmospheric pressure has been the reason behind this dry spell in Chennai now. This was as per some weather experts. It is known that high atmospheric pressure is associated with clear skies as air sinks into lower part of atmosphere.
