Heavy Chennai rains, suburban areas worst hit

Madipakkam, Perungudi, Neelankarai, Injambakkam, Kargil Nagar, Korattur etc are some of the suburbs of Chennai that received heavy rains yesterday.

On Sunday, Chennai received heavy rains for the whole day is known. It is now said that people belonging to these above mentioned suburbs have been affected badly and life was thrown out of gear as rain water entered homes and submerged many roads.

It has been predicted by the meteorological department that on Monday heavy rains would occur in few places like Cudalore, Puducherry, Villupuram, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Theni, Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli districts. There would be moderate rainfall in Chennai city.

As per the Chennai corporation commissioner, Mr. G. Prakash, the total inundated locations within city limits is around 15 and these locations are present in low lying areas like Madipakkam and Velachery. He highlighted that the situation has been monitored continuously. The important information revealed by the meteorological department official is the rain in Chennai city was because of upper air circulation and there would not be any cyclone.

Point to be noted is Ramanathapuram district received the highest rainfall in southern region with an average of 70.44 mm. It must be taken into account that Rameswaram, Pamban and Thangatchimadam received 110 mm of rains.
