Prospects of rain today in 15 districts!

The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has informed that due to the formation of a low-pressure zone over the ocean areas of Kanyakumari and Chennai, there are prospects for rain in 15 districts in the state of Tamil Nadu today (Wednesday, 20th November).

The northeast monsoon rainy season has been in progress in Tamil Nadu. As such, it has been raining in several parts of Tamil Nadu.

A maximum, rainfall of 600 mm has been recorded at Cuddalore. Rainfall recorded in m in other areas: Thiruchendur – 50, Aalankudi – 40, Chozhavandhan and Ambasamudram – 30, Usilampatti, Thiruvannamalai, Rameswaram, and Seerkaxhi – 20.

Due to the prevailing phenomenon of thermal convective rain, a cyclonic format has formed in the upper layers of the atmosphere over the ocean. Apart from this, a low-pressure zone has formed over the Bay of Mannar near the Kanyakumari Ocean. This has spread from Nagappattinam to Tirunelveli.

Subsequently, another low-pressure zone has formed over Kollam.

With these developments, there are prospects of very heavy rain in the southern districts of  Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar, Thoothukkudi, and Kanyakumari.

In the Bay of Bengal ocean zone covering the coastal Tamil Nadu and Andhra, a low-pressure zone has formed linking Nellore-Chennai, Chennai-Puducherry, and Puducherry-Nagappattinam.

So, IMD (Indian Meteorological Department) has informed that there are prospects for heavy rains for 3 days in Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Thiruvannamalai, Vellore, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Puducherry, and Salem.
