Prospects for heavy rains in 5 districts in the next 24 hours due to cyclonic format!

The onset of the Northeast monsoon rainy season in Tamil Nadu was from 17th October. Subsequently, it rained heavily in several districts. There was heavy rain in the districts of  Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Thoothkkudi, and Nilgiri. However, it did not rain in the Chennai Metro City even up to the expected level!

When there was a cyclonic format located over the Bay of Bengal, there was a huge expectation for heavy rains. But the cyclone drifted and went off (bulbul). So, there was no rain in Chennai. It rained somewhat a few days in Chennai.

Up till now, the northeast monsoon rainy season in Chennai has failed by 41% short! A rainfall of 29 cm has been recorded in Chennai from 1st October. However, the expected average was 49 cm of rainfall!

In this situation, the Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that there is a cyclonic format in the upper layers of the atmosphere over the sea and because of there, there are prospects for heavy rain in the next 24 hours in the districts of Tirunelveli, Thoothukkudi, Kanyakumari, Ramanathapuram, and Virudhunagar.

The Chennai Metro City will remain cloudy. There are prospects for medium rain in a few sections of the city.

As per the data from the Chennai Regional Meteorological Office, the details of rainfall in cm recorded in different places in the last 24 hours: Cuddalore - 6, Tiruchendur - 5, Aalankudi - 4, and Vedaranyam and Ambasamudram - 3.
