Work on widening congested roads in Chennai to start

There are many roads that are congested in the city of Chennai and people and vehicles find it difficult to move in these congested roads. This won�t be an issue anymore.

The superb piece of news now is the corporation of Chennai would soon start the work on the project of widening of these congested roads in Chennai. As per the resolution of the Chennai Corporation Council in 2014, as many as 14 roads are expected to be widened.

Last year, the civic body completed widening 1150 meters out of a total 3.1 km of Kaliamman Koil Street is known. After that, it had stopped the widening work. It is now brought out that the civic body had decided to resume work on the acquisition of land from the private owners along stretches such as Kaliamman Koil Street. It is important to mention here that the proposal for administrative sanction for the acquisition of 1160 sq m of land along Kaliamman Koil Street has been sent.

To widen stretches like Sardar Patel Road and Strahan`s Road, the government had given permission and it is said that government lands would be utilized along the stretches. An official later spoke about how the road widening would be carried out in a phased manner. 

Information collected is The Commissioner of Land Administration through the Collector would acquire land under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act 2013. The Chennai Corporation would bear the cost of land acquisition.

The acquisition of land in Virugambakkam would start once the widening of stretch in Koyambedu and Senchery gets completed. In the next phase, a total of 13.39 sq km of private land in Virugambakkam, 4383sq m in Senchery and 2469 in Koyambedu would also be acquired.

Serving as the main access for Koyambedu Bus Terminus, market and CMRL depot, Kaliamman Koil Street is a vital link connecting Jawaharlal Nehru Salai and NSK Salai. The important information is the road would be widened from the present 9.6 m to 27 meters. The concept of TDR or Transfer of Development Rights has been opposed by the private landowners who have formed an association.
