The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has informed that a low-pressure zone has formed over the Bay of Bengal. Due to this, there are prospects for heavy rains in 1 or 2 places in 9 districts in Tamil Nadu.

With the onset of the Northeast monsoon rainy season during the 1st week of October, a cyclonic format developed over the Bay of Bengal last week and intensified into a severe cyclone ‘Bulbul’. Even as it was expected that this Bulbul would create havoc in the state of Tamil Nadu, the cyclone drifted towards West Bengal. Due to this, a dry climate persisted which saw no rains in the past few days in the northern districts of Tamil Nadu.

However, due to the phenomenon of the thermal convective rain, it has been frequently raining in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu.

In this scenario, a low-pressure zone has formed over the Bay of Bengal in the southeast side adjacent to the Sri Lankan coastal sea. Due to this, there are prospects for mild rain in a few places in Tamil Nadu.

Apart from this, there are prospects of rain in 1 or 2 places in the districts of Coimbatore, Nilgiri, Theni, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, and Thoothukkudi.
