The Tamil Nadu State Government Minister for School Education, K. A. Sengottaiyan, informed that the Public Examinations for 5th and 8th Standards will be conducted. But there will be no fail status!

Public examinations for the 5th and 8th Standards are conducted from the current academic year in Tamil Nadu as per the Right To Education Act.  In this regard, circulars have been sent to all the District Primary Education Officers regarding the public examination procedure for the 5th and 8th Standards.

In this circular, it is mentioned that the public examinations for the 5th and 8th Standards will be conducted from the current academic year. However, the Pass; status for the students will be followed for the next 3 years.

The minister shared with the press during a session at Karur Venneimalai:

As per the central governments compulsory education Act, the public examinations will be conducted for the 5th and 8th Standards. However, the status fail has been barred for the next 3 years when the students will be deemed to be promoted to the next class.

After 3 years, a review will be conducted with consultancy from academicians and the practice in other states and then a decision will be taken regarding the continuance of public examinations. Thus, there would be no break for the students in the 5th and 8th Standards.
