Red Alert to Tamil Nadu - Prospects of very heavy rain: IMD

Indian Meteorological Department has given a red alert warning that there are prospects of very heavy rains in most districts in Tamil Nadu State. Red Alert is a warning given to the concerned officials to take all necessary precautionary actions.
In case it rains more than 22 cm in a single day, it is taken as the red alert by the Meteorological center.
As regards Tamil Nadu, the northeast monsoon rainy season has been quite severe so far and the impact of rain has been high in Chennai Metro City as well.
The cyclonic format prevailing over the Bay of Bengal in the upper layers of the atmosphere and also a depression format in the central Arabian Sea, it has been informed that there are prospects of heavy rains in Tamil Nadu. IMD has informed us that there are prospects of heavy rains in most districts in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
More particularly, the rains may start today and will continue for the next 3 days as per the Chennai Meteorological Center.
